H. Moser & Cie unveils new analogue-digital display multi-functional timepiece with its Streamliner OFF-GRID

For the population of watch enthusiasts who are also Formula 1 fans, H. Moser & Cie’s sponsorship of the Alpine racing team and the watch brand’s resulting collaborative timepieces are likely fun horological cherries on top of a sundae of interests colliding. For the Alpine Formula 1 team, H. Moser & Cie has released two sets of watches, including a fly-back chronograph (the Driver’s watch) and a multi-functional digital timepiece (the Mechanic’s watch). Each edition was limited in number and sold as a set. Despite being very well executed and possibly one of the best high-end splurges for die-hard F1 fans, the inability to purchase the watches separately and the dedicated F1 functions on the Mechanic’s watch likely led to some less-than-interested potential buyers. If you happen to be a die-hard Moser fan, or a collector of high-end digital timepieces, H. Moser & Cie. has now released a more widely available digital timepiece with the new Streamliner OFF-GRID.
The H. Moser & Cie Streamliner OFF-GRID continues in line with the previous Streamliner digital timepieces. Available with either a blue or black PVD case, the stainless steel case measures 42.6mm wide, 14.4mm thick, and is water-resistant to 120 metres. The case is steel with blue or black composite/PVD treatment, depending on the version. The 3 o’clock side of the case features three pushers to access the different functions, and a pusher located at 9 o’clock activates the “off-grid” mode (more on that later). Covering the dial is a domed sapphire crystal, and the caseback is fitted with sapphire crystal and features the Moser hallmark.
The dial features both an analogue and a digital display. The upper portion of the dial features the analogue display, with either a Blackor (blue case) or red (black case) fumé dial with a transparent lacquered H. Moser & Cie logo. The lower portion of the dial features the digital display, with the remaining dial space skeletonised to reveal some of the inner components of the movement. The dial has applied Super-LumiNova ceramic indices, and the hands are filled with Super-LumiNova.
The H. Moser & Cie Streamliner OFF-GRID is powered by the Calibre D10. Similar to the movements used in the Alpine editions, this movement was developed in partnership with Sequent. The calibre measures 32.5mm wide, 33.9mm long, and 6.9mm thick. Operating at a frequency of 32,768 vibrations per second, the Calibre D10 is rated to an accuracy of +/-0.3 seconds per day. The battery life is rated to 12 months in time display-only mode, or 6 months with combined use including time display, 30 days of alarm function use and 1 hour of chronograph use.
In addition to the time and chronograph functions already mentioned, the Calibre D10 features a vibrating alarm, GMT with country selector for all time zones, split-seconds chronograph measuring 1/100th of a second, perpetual calendar, perpetual moon phase updated every hour and programmed for the next 100 years, sunrise and sunset times accurate to 1 minute and 30 seconds and programmed for the next 100 years, timer, and “OFF-GRID” mode.
By pressing the “OFF-GRID” pusher at 9 o’clock, the watch quickly lets you select a country, then displays a dictionary of ten words in 21 different languages. The watch features Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 connectivity and is compatible with iOS and Android. Even with its Bluetooth connectivity, H. Moser & Cie aims for the OFF-GRID to be a purposeful and capable timepiece, and less of an always-on distraction from enjoying daily life. To drive this home, the digital display includes some lighthearted messages for the wearer.
The previous digital Streamliner models were clear in their F1 racing focus, with dedicated functions for the racing team and enthusiasts. With the new Streamliner OFF-GRID, H. Moser & Cie has created a light-hearted, fully capable digital timepiece with broader appeal. While still very premium in price, I can see the Streamliner OFF-GRID serving as a reliable daily for avid H. Moser & Cie enthusiasts and as a way for new clients to enter the brand.
