A man has been hit with a two-year driving ban after being caught with no insurance and no licence in Letterkenny.
Luiz Felipe Zacarias Leal has been put off the road and also fined a total of €600 after his case was before Letterkenny District Court.
The 26-year-old, of Rann Mor Meadow, Letterkenny, was charged with offences after being stopped on January 30, 2026 at High Road Letterkenny.
Garda Stephen Joseph Carroll of the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit gave evidence of stopping a Toyota Aygo at 11.48am.
The automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) flagged the car as being uninsured.
Leal had no documents present when initially spoken to by Gardai. He then elected to produce at Letterkenny Garda Station, but did not do so.
He was charged with driving without insurance, driving without a license as well as failing to produce insurance and failing to produce a licence. The offences are all contrary to the Road Traffic Act, 1961.
Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle confirmed that Leal has no previous convictions.

For driving without insurance, Leal was convicted and fined €350. In the case of each fine, he was given six months to pay.
Judge Daly also disqualified Leal from driving for a period of two years.
