To cope with Quebec’s shortage of generic weight loss drugs, Vaudreuil resident Rina is rationing the drug and cutting her dose in half.
When she went to Familiprix two weeks ago for a refill of the Apotex generic semaglutide, which costs less than half the price of brand name Ozempic, she said it was completely out of stock.
“The pharmacist suggested switching back to Ozempic” said Rina, who asked to keep her last name anonymous. She says she was told, “how about, just to tide you over,” to temporarily cut to the 1 mg dose rather than stick with her normal 2 mg dose, in order to save money.
