After being unceremoniously booted from Ed Sheeran’s stadium tour for speaking out in favor of Palestine, Macklemore is building his own show. “So, as you all know, my schedule freed up a bit,” he teased in a statement where he also revealed that he is going on a “Free Palestine” tour later this year. The tour is being billed as by “Macklemore and Friends,” and it will include several artists who have yet to be announced. All proceeds will go to organizations “supporting the Palestinian people and movement.” “Because of how quickly all of this has come together, a lot of the conversations, schedules, and details are still being worked out,” Macklemore added. “But this is a moment of momentum, and there is work to be done.”
Macklemore was forced out of being an opening act on Sheeran’s Loop Tour after he spoke out in support of Palestine onstage, and stadium owners, led by Bob Kraft, threatened to cancel the show if Macklemore remained on the bill. In response, multiple other artists who were a part of the tour, including Finneas, Aaron Rowe, and the band Beoga, left the tour as well. “What happened to me is bigger than one artist or one stage,” Macklemore said in his statement. “When the billionaire class can decide which voices are allowed on stage and which ones are too dangerous to hear, everyone should be paying attention.”
The only confirmed dates for the tour so far are abroad, in Dublin, Paris, and London, at the end of October, but Macklemore did promise that “artist announcements coming soon, as well as U.S. dates.” Presale begins on Monday with general on-sale happening on Wednesday.
