OPSWAT, a global vendor of critical infrastructure protection solutions, launched on Tuesday its MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch, a portable cybersecurity device that enables security teams to scan servers, desktops, and laptops for threats and malware anywhere without impacting the network. The device delivers malware detection and compliance scanning for transient assets, even in fully air-gapped environments. It works across servers, desktops, and laptops before they enter secure environments. The device empowers security teams to prevent cyberattacks, which can severely impact operations, including downtime from inbound and transient assets.
Purpose-built for critical infrastructure, MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch is a compact, handheld device featuring physical connectivity controls that eliminate the risk of network-based compromise during operation. The device enables organizations to proactively scan and validate transient assets, including vendor laptops, contractor devices, and other critical devices, ensuring they are threat-free before being introduced into secure environments.
The next-generation MetaDefender Drive is powered by OPSWAT’s Metascan Multiscanning technology, leveraging up to seven anti-malware engines, file-based vulnerability assessment, proactive data loss prevention (DLP), and country-of-origin detection. It also includes boot-level analysis for deep inspection of cyber assets. With a simple touch interface and requiring no installation, the device is easy to use, even in high-security, air-gapped facilities.
“By combining our advanced multiscanning and data sanitization technologies in a handheld form factor, we’re giving critical infrastructure operators the best of both worlds—uncompromising security and the operational flexibility to enable operations anywhere independent of connectivity,” said Itay Glick, vice president of products at OPSWAT. “With seamless integration into My OPSWAT Central Management, organizations can centrally monitor and update the MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch remotely, ensuring every transient and critical asset is verified and safe for use.”
The solution performs bare-metal multiscanning, allowing laptops and critical devices to be scanned from the hardware level through user-space files and directories using multiple anti-malware engines. Its proactive data loss prevention feature detects sensitive and confidential information such as credit card and social security numbers across documents, images, and videos.
It includes a country-of-origin detection capability that analyzes device software and flags components that may violate compliance requirements. The file-based vulnerability assessment detects known vulnerabilities in more than 20,000 software applications through a patented file-based approach.
Wireless updates allow easy delivery of new reports, engines, and applications over Wi-Fi or cellular networks. The solution integrates with My OPSWAT Central Management for automated report syncing, real-time monitoring, configuration, and actionable security insights, with reports transferable over wireless or cellular connections.
Engine updates can be performed seamlessly by connecting the device to a MetaDefender Kiosk, eliminating the need for a workstation. Scanning reports are automatically synchronized in isolated environments via MetaDefender Kiosk and My OPSWAT Central Management with on-premises integration, ensuring secure data transfer without requiring internet access. A centralized scanning profile maintains consistent policies while enabling real-time remote access and policy modifications with approval through a one-time password.
MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch is now available through OPSWAT and authorized partners worldwide, with both U.S.-made and global models offered.
