An infant has died following a road traffic incident in Dublin this afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene outside a residence in Rathmintin, Jobstown, Dublin 24, that occurred at approximately 2pm this afternoon.

“A male infant was transferred from the scene to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased,” a garda spokesperson said.

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to support the family at this time.

A technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators has since been conducted.

No further information is being made available.

Meanwhile, gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Co Cavan.

It’s understood a female motorist was seriously injured in the single vehicle crash which took place on a rural road in the Crosskeys area of the county shortly before 4pm this afternoon.

The road itself has been closed and is likely to remain shut off to traffic overnight with local diversions in place.

“Gardaí and emergency services are currently at scene of a serious road traffic collision that occurred on a local road in Carrickatober, Crosskeys, Co. Cavan this afternoon Tuesday 7th October, 2025 at approximately 3.30pm,” said a garda spokesperson.

“The road is closed and local diversions are in place.”
