An Air France flight bound for Paris was forced to divert to Dublin Airport this morning after declaring a mid-air emergency when a passenger reportedly fell ill on board.

Flight AF99, travelling from Houston, Texas, to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, turned towards Ireland after the crew declared an emergency while the aircraft was south of the Irish coast. The Boeing 777-300ER had been flying for almost eight hours and was cruising at around 34,000 feet when the emergency was declared, according to aviation news site AirLive.

The crew issued a general emergency signal to air traffic control before the aircraft changed course for Dublin Airport. The plane landed safely on Runway 28L around 40 minutes after the emergency was declared.

Medical crews were on standby and met the aircraft after it taxied to a remote stand at the airport. The aircraft, registered as F-GZNH, departed George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston on Sunday afternoon, October 18, bound for Paris.

AirLive reported that the diversion was prompted by a passenger becoming ill and requiring medical assistance. Flight-tracking data recorded the diversion to Dublin, followed by a subsequent leg from Dublin to Paris.

The aircraft type is a Boeing 777-300ER, a long-haul passenger jet commonly used on transatlantic routes. Dublin Live have contacted Air France for comment.
