Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, billed as the first-ever officially authorised documentary about the iconic band, has confirmed its release date. Fans can now pencil the date in their diaries, as the film is set to premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday 29 January, 2027.

The film, directed by Frank Marshall, will tell the band’s story in their own words, as Fleetwood Mac: The Chain brings together “voices, memories and perspectives” of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks.

The title of the documentary references the band’s hit The Chain, the only song on their beloved album Rumours that is credited to all five members of the band.

“The song perfectly captures the complicated yet enduring bond at the heart of Fleetwood Mac, and its iconic lyrics became a powerful motif for the respect and connection that persisted through the tumultuous odyssey of the band’s rise to superstardom,” a description from Apple TV reads.

The premiere of Fleetwood Mac: The Chain will also coincide with the 50th anniversary of the release of the Grammy award-winning album.

“Following their fortuitous meeting in 1974, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks reflect on their uncompromising 50-plus-year history, from their record-breaking recordings and tours — including never-before-seen footage and exclusive new interviews — through to today,” a synopsis for the film explains.

The documentary promises to “explore how the band’s trials and tribulations, personal resilience, and musical dexterity combined to create enduring masterpieces”.

It is also set to take audiences through the highs and lows of their careers, as a band who sold more than 220 million records worldwide and is still, to this day, adored by fans.

“The documentary will reveal what allowed this combination of artists to create singular musical work again and again, and what drew them back together and held them there when every possible pressure, both outside and inside the band, threatened to blow them apart,” the description concludes.

Singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks has shared Apple’s short teaser clip promoting the documentary on her Instagram Stories, and it’s fair to say that fans of Fleetwood Mac have rushed to the comments to share their excitement.

Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide, written by Stevie Nicks, featured on the soundtrack for Practical Magic 2, which released earlier this year, and the iconic star also joined Olivia Rodrigo on stage at Daisy Chain Fields festival to perform a rendition of the song.

Fleetwood Mac: The Chain will premiere on Apple TV on Friday 29 January, 2027.
