The Status Yellow Alert for Cork is over – but the damage has already been done as homes across the Rebel County are now without water.

Storm Boelo’s heavy downpours have resulted in low clean water levels in local treatment plants and reservoirs. In East Cork, homes and businesses in Mogeely, Castlemartyr, Ladysbridge and Garryvoe have been impacted, and families are experiencing outages and a loss of water pressure.

An Uisce Éireann spokesperson has said that every effort is being made to fix the issue, however the utility company has not given an estimated repair time.

This comes as thousands of homes and businesses in the wider Youghal area have also now been put under a Boil Water notice.

Meanwhile in West Cork, outages are impacting properties in Skibbereen, Abbeystrewery, Baltimore, Sherkin Island, Ballydehob, Schull, Drimoleague and the surrounding areas. An Uisce Éireann crew is working at the local treatment plant. Repairs are expected to continue until 10am tomorrow (Sunday) morning.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all customers. However, it may take longer for properties at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Uisce Éireann’s Niall O’Riordan said: “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned interruption to supply and we thank customers for their support while our works continue.”

Customers can get the latest updates on outages on the Uisce Éireann website’s live map here.
