Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) today announced disruptions to undersea internet cables in the Red Sea.
The TRC said that international bodies have confirmed these disruptions, which have resulted in slower speeds and increased response times in a number of countries in the region.
The TRC confirmed that while no nationwide internet outage has been recorded in Jordan, users may experience some delays when accessing international content.
The authority is working with licensed operators to improve routing paths, increase local exchange, and rely on terrestrial and other Mediterranean submarine cable alternatives to mitigate the impact.
The TRC will continue to monitor quality indicators and provide updates to the public as needed.
Complicated Repairs and Jordan’s Connectivity
The TRC stated that repairing submarine cables is a complex process that could take weeks, depending on the availability of ships and conditions in the Red Sea.
Jordan’s internet infrastructure benefits from a diversity of international routes, including submarine cables connected to Aqaba that link to Mediterranean infrastructure.
Jordan also relies on terrestrial routes through Saudi Arabia to the Gulf. New connections are being planned to further diversify routes between Europe and Asia.
