The future of employees at three discount stores in Kerry remains uncertain this evening.

The parent company of Dealz, the UK’s Poundland, yesterday filed a Notice Of Intention (NOI) to appoint administrators.

This creates an immediate ten working-day legal moratorium for the company to identify a possible outcome for financial difficulties.

There are three Dealz stores in Kerry: one at Abbeycourt, Tralee; one on High Street, Killarney; and one at Deerpark Retail Park in Killarney.

In a statement to Radio Kerry, the firm acting as administrators, Alvarez & Marsal, said they “have been working on a formal sale process for Poundland”.

The statement continued that “any sale process creates uncertainty” and thanked “staff, suppliers and customers for their continued support.”

The spokesperson did not clarify if Dealz would be treated separately to Poundland or sold with its parent company.

Dealz stores remain open as normal.
