A student at Dublin music college BIMM, he recently played Whelan’s Ones to Watch festival, and has also supported Irish acts Esmeralda Road, Child of Prague, Syano, Dog Swim and Mount Pyrus; as well as international acts Xavier Omär (US) and MT Jones (UK).
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I studied Law for two and a half years before I left to pursue music.
Then, I worked as a singing waiter in a Teppanyaki Restaurant.
Which is part of why I love cooking (signature dish is Chicken Ramen).
How would you describe your music?
Yearning, but make it groovy. I write most of the songs with the guitar and then my wonderful band help me bring to life what I hear playing along in my head, but they make it so much better. Like most songwriters, I try to either create, re-create or amalgamate the songs I love and want to listen to more of. And I try to make both myself; and whoever hears them feel something in the process, either with your heart, your head or your feet. Ideally, all three at the same time.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Growing up I had a lot of great music playing around me thanks to my parents and brothers all having very good but very different tastes; Andrea Bocelli, The Cure, U2, Billie Holiday, Adele, The Script, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, Amy Winehouse, Moving Hearts, ELO; all over the shop. Musicals and movie soundtracks as well: Les Mis, Top Gun and The Commitments all went platinum on our house/car stereo. Then a mix of singer/songwriters and rap filled my Spotify as a teenager.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Paddy Casey at the INEC in Killarney on New Year’s Eve (I was seven. Hahahaha).
What was the first record you ever bought?
Probably one of the NOW (That’s What I Call Music) CDs. Pretty sure the first record I bought when I was starting my vinyl collection years ago was Innervisions by Stevie Wonder, or maybe the Silk Sonic album.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Beautiful Thoughts by David Eamon of course! Real answer: Caterpillar by Florence Road.
Favourite lyric of all time?
“Just as hate knows love’s the cure, You can rest your mind assure, That I’ll be loving you always” – Stevie Wonder.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I’d probably go with Untitled (How Does It Feel) by D’Angelo. The fact it’s seven minutes long would probably help stave off the insanity for a wee while longer than your usual song, and I listen to it over and over some days anyway because it’s absolute bliss.
Where can people find your music/more information?
My first single I mentioned is out now on all streaming platforms under David Eamon (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube etc). @davideamon_ on Instagram and TikTok for photos, gig clips and news.
