Over the past few months, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been making the headlines for various reasons. From opting out of Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD over the working hours issue to being trolled for wearing a hijab in an Abu Dhabi tourism advertisement, her fans have been rallying in her support. And now the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has appointed her as India’s first-ever Mental Health Ambassador.
On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Deepika took to her official social media handle to make the announcement. She met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda to discuss her collaboration with the government in raising awareness and improving access to mental health care across India.
For those who don’t know, the 39-year-old actress has been quite vocal about mental health awareness through her organisation Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF). Taking to her Instagram handle, she expressed gratitude over the appointment.
A part of her lengthy caption read, “Led by our Hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi, our nation has taken meaningful steps to place mental health at the heart of public health. Through my own journey and work we’ve done at @tlllfoundation over the past decade, I’ve seen how much is possible when we come together to build a mentally healthy India. I look forward to working under the guidance of Shri. @jpnaddaofficial and the @mohfwindia to strengthen India’s mental health framework further.”
As soon as the announcement was made, her first and foremost cheerleader, Ranveer Singh, took to the comment section of the post and wrote, “So proud of you 👏🏽 ❤️.” Deepika’s fans have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) handles to express their excitement about the new development.
