WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Resurrection episode 10.

The Dexter: Resurrection season 1 finale reintroduces one of the best hidden Easter eggs from the original Dexter series that relates to Brian Moser and Dexter’s biological mother, Laura.

Unlike past finale episodes, Resurrection episode 10 stuck the landing, which strongly improves its chances of getting renewed for a second season despite the sudden cancellation of the prequel series Original Sin.

Dexter Believing Leon’s Code Was His Parents’ Death Date Calls Back To The OG Series’ “103” Easter Eggs

While it was particularly prevalent in Dexter season 1 when Brian was trying to make Dexter remember their mother’s murder, the number “103” became a big Easter egg throughout the series, as it referenced when Laura was murdered and the boys developed their Dark Passengers.

In Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter thinks the code to Leon’s vault is his parents’ death date because he would never forget it, similar to “103” for him. As it turns out, Prater was thinking one step ahead and made the passcode the 8-digit inmate number for Cooper Morris, the man who killed his parents in a drunk driving accident.

It makes more sense that Prater would remember the inmate number of Cooper Morris more than the date of his parents’ death because of his obsessive fascination with serial killers. As it turns out, his fanaticism was only a byproduct of his actually wanting to kill, or kill and be indifferent, much like Cooper Morris was about his parents.

Brian’s Return Makes Dexter’s Subtle “103” Callback More Meaningful

Amid all of that, Dexter had a vision of Brian again in the opening scenes of Resurrection’s season 1 finale. These moments bring back all those deeper meanings of when he was “born in blood” and, despite both being killers, how they still went down two very different paths after their mother’s death.

Brian’s return in the Resurrection finale is even more impactful considering that he quietly became a major focal point of Original Sin, watching Dexter’s rise at Miami Metro from the sidelines. Brian even confronts Harry in Original Sin, which adds an extra punch when Brian calls Harry Dexter’s “fake dad” in Resurrection.

The most tragic and frustrating part of Original Sin’s cancellation is that there would have likely been more backstory developed from Brian, especially with his relationship with Harry. Since Dexter and Brian don’t meet again until the events of season 1, which take place in 2006, and the prequel started in the 1990s, a significant amount of time goes unaccounted for between these two series. Hopefully, there will at least be more Brian in Dexter: Resurrection season 2.
