Ireland is to review biosecurity measures at Irish ports amid fears the Asian hornet arrived here by “piggybacking” on trucks, camper vans or even cars from the Continent.

The revelation came as Irish wildlife officials are assessing the discovery of two Asian hornet nests in Cork, with a third sighting of a lone hornet in Inchicore, Dublin.
