QUINCY — Summer is wrapping up and maybe you’re heading back to school or just want to get a head start on getting fit for fall.
There are many establishments in Quincy designed to help you get there.
Check out the list below for a variety of local fitness institutions, welcoming to beginners and athletes alike.
Domingo Yoga
What: You will leave Domingo Yoga feeling stretched, calm, and content. Owner Emely Domingo is a gentle, warm leader: guiding the class, but also allowing participants to do what feels best for their body. Vinyasa yoga is a style of yoga that aims to match a flowing sequence of movements with breath. There is no judgement if someone takes a break or moves at their own pace. All of the equipment at Domingo Yoga is free to borrow: no mat required. For those looking for something different, Chair yoga is also available a few days a week, as well as Zumba, Strength, and Play focused classes. The room gets warmer as the class continues, but it is not overly hot.
When: Hour long classes at various times throughout each day. For a special treat, attend Thursday’s 7 pm Vinyasa Flow to wind-down with the setting sun. Check the schedule here.

What to wear: Thin clothing that allows your body to move and sweat. Bare feet. Leggings or athletic shorts, sweat-wicking shirt.
Cost: First class free! Standard is $20/class, with discounts available for seniors, military, children and packages.
YMCA
What: Tons of varieties of classes for all activities and ability levels. One rockstar class is Coach Jason’s Iron Bridge Crossfit. Athletes and beginners are both welcome, and will warm up, lift-weights (with plenty of instruction), and complete cardio. Your heart rate will go up, you will get stronger, and you will learn how to work out while doing it. Coach Jason is warm and welcoming, helping individuals tailor the workouts to what is possible for them. Iron Bridge is Crossfit, but contrary to stereotypes, Iron Bridge serves people just starting their fitness journey, as well as elderly folks maintaining their muscle strength. Everyone IS welcome, and everyone FEELS welcome at Iron Bridge.
When: Hour-long classes, Monday through Friday. 6 am, 7:30 am, noon, 4:30 pm.

Where: 3101 Maine St.
What to wear: Sneakers, form-fitting clothes that won’t get in your way. It gets warm, so shorts are recommended!
Cost: $90 a month (includes membership to the rest of the YMCA facility!)
Cheryl Loatsch
What: Cheryl Loatsch offers a huge variety of classes. Options include Group Fitness, Mature Moves, Weight Room, Personal Training, Yoga, Pilates, or Tai Chi. Once you start at Cheryl Loatsch, you might never leave: many particpants have been coming for decades, and that is not an exaggeration. If you are hoping to increase your overall health, Ms. Cheryl Loatsch will take care of you: outside of fitness, the Sunrise Kitchen & Bakery offers healthy foods to reheat at home.
When: Various times all day, every day.

Cost: 60 minute class/weight room fee: 13 weeks for $150.00, 26 weeks for $280.00, 1 year for $540.00.
Dojo of Do Well
What: The Dojo of Do Well offers mat workouts that designed to get bodies moving, friendly to beginners and athletes alike. The classes vary in topic, but include Dawn Patrol (focused on strength and mobility, using weights,) House Blend (a mix of Mat Pilates and weight training,) and mat pilates (stretching and body weight). Classes are very modifiable and explained well for people less comfortable with working out. There is a strong community feel, emphasized by the brass tags clients receive: an X is stamped into the tag after each class.
When: Various class times, Monday through Saturday, 6 am to noon.

Rooted Yoga
What: Rooted Yoga is a small, inclusive community-based yoga studio that focuses on meditation and mindfulness. Many of the flows are slow, stretching the mind and body. Kimberly is a kind and gentle teacher, helpful to newcomers and veterans alike with her signature phrase, “Do the yoga.” Rooted Yoga also has a newly open tea room, serving hot tea and selling tea bags to go.
When: Various class times, Monday through Sunday.

Q-Town Fitness
What: Q-Town Fitness is a faith-based gym that leads clients through a wide range of movements focused on moving your body and gaining strength. Classes are around an hour long. Community is a big focus of Q-Town, and folks help each other out, setting up equipment and saying hello.
When: Monday – Friday: 6 am, 7:20 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 4:30 pm, 5:30 pm, occasionally 6:30 pm, Saturday at 9 am. Classes are one hour long.

Cost: First couple classes free! $125/month unlimited, or $10 per class
