Ireland have released a stunning merchandise range to celebrate reaching an historic Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final berth.
The Irish were beaten 40-0 by New Zealand’s Black Ferns in Brighton but a raucous crowd continued to get behind their team throughout and a match-up against France in the last-eight now beckons for the history-making side.
Next up is Sandy Park in Exeter on September 14 and Ireland have released a collection of t-shirts, kits and caps for fans to show their support for the team.
New merch
Kit maker Canterbury has launched purple t-shirts featuring the Irish badge priced at just £28 in time for the quarter-final. It has also launched green polo shirts priced at £39 as worn by the players.
The Irish national kit is itself on sale for fans of the women’s team. The shirt, priced from £82, toured Ireland behind the tournament to allow fans to see the colours up close. You can buy the entire World Cup range here.
The team wore the shirt when they beat Japan 42-14 in the group stage opener and again when the side beat Spain 43-27 in Northampton. The two early wins secured Ireland’s spot in the next round despite defeat to New Zealand.
Coach Scott Bemand said the team will be ready when the time comes to take on France.
He said: “If you look over the last two weeks, we’ve actually been pretty clinical in terms of getting into the score zone and coming away with points. The fact we’re getting in there and creating momentum and getting opportunities to get ‘ins’ will be something we’ll look at and go ‘OK, we understand we need to do more of that again against another World Cup contender next week’.”
Fully fit squad
Ireland will assess injuries picked up in the New Zealand game but Bemand is confident they will have a fully fit squad against France.
The Irish side is capable of beating anybody on their day and will need to bring back the spirit of the shock result that saw them beat world champions New Zealand 29-27 last September.
You will be able to watch the match on the BBC in the UK and RTE in Ireland. You can shop the Ireland collection here.
