{"id":100772,"date":"2025-10-24T05:00:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T05:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/100772\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T05:00:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T05:00:14","slug":"connolly-extends-commanding-lead-over-humphreys-in-final-presidential-election-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/100772\/","title":{"rendered":"Connolly extends commanding lead over Humphreys in final presidential election poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Catherine Connolly is on course to become the next President of Ireland, as a new poll shows her 15 points ahead of Fine Gael rival Heather Humphreys.<\/p>\n<p>The latest  Irish Independent\/Ireland Thinks poll shows the Independent candidate at 40%, compared to Ms Humphreys on 25%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ms Connolly is up eight points from the previous  Ireland Thinks poll, where she was on 32%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ms Humphreys, however, is up only two points, having previously been on 23%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The biggest drop is for Fianna F\u00e1il candidate Jim Gavin, who withdrew from the race earlier this month. His support fell eight points, from 15% to 7%.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/presidential-election-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom:10px; width:100%; height:auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4823610_1_org_640x150_banner_election_large.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The poll also shows that 28% of respondents either don\u2019t know, won\u2019t vote, or plan to spoil their ballot on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">When undecided voters are excluded, Ms Connolly\u2019s lead widens further, with 55% saying they will back the Independent candidate, while Ms Humphreys rises to 35%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The poll, published on Thursday afternoon, also provides insight into Tuesday\u2019s Prime Time debate.
