The broadcasters, who have a huge amount of experience \u00adbetween them, are believed to have landed the evening gig on \u00adRadio 1.<\/p>\n
In a huge shake up of the schedule announced two weeks ago, RT\u00c9 director of audio Patricia Monahan \u00adindicated it would feature a new 6pm sports show.<\/p>\n

Although no names were linked with the show at the time, the publicity blurb said it will feature previews and reviews of national and international sporting events.<\/p>\n
It will also have interviews with leading figures and delve into the breaking sports stories of the day.<\/p>\n
News that Crowe and Hurley could step into the hot seat in a female double-hander was greeted favourably by RT\u00c9 insiders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are two very well-respected broadcasters with a huge range of experience between them, so people would be very happy to see them getting the new gig. There\u2019s no doubt they would be excellent in the roles,\u201d one said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would be good to see more female broadcasters on the Radio 1 schedule as it\u2019s very male-heavy from mid-morning, with David McCullagh on straight after Oliver Callan.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven that Kieran \u00adCuddihy got the Liveline gig, that would help \u00adcorrect any perceived gender \u00adimbalance.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is understood the Second Captains team were approached about taking on the new show, but no deal was reached in the end.<\/p>\n
Crowe, an award-winning sports journalist, has been with RT\u00c9 since 2016 and was previously a newspaper sports reporter. From Clare, she currently fronts Game On with Ruby Walsh on 2FM and Sunday Sport with Des Cahill.<\/p>\n
She recently \u00adreturned from maternity leave after having her fourth child, Jessie (seven months), with her teacher husband Billy Sheehan.<\/p>\n
They also have three sons \u2013 Timmy (13), Billy (11) and David (8). She recently said they were \u201cused to having a busy life\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went back to work a little bit earlier than I had anticipated because of the Women\u2019s Euros, and I made a \u00addecision to work on them,\u201d she told the RT\u00c9 Guide. \u201cMy husband is a teacher, and he\u2019s off during the summer, so it\u2019s worked out well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Crowe recently branched out into documentary-making with the three-part RT\u00c9 series Football Families.<\/p>\n
It was a behind-the-scenes look at Shelbourne FC\u2019s soccer academy, highlighting the hard work involved and pressure put on the young players and their families.<\/p>\n
She also won accolades for her work on RT\u00c9 Investigates: Girls in Green, a joint expos\u00e9 with the Sunday Independent\u2019s Mark Tighe, which revealed allegations of predatory behaviour and misogyny in Irish women\u2019s football.<\/p>\n
Hurley has been a long-time employee of RT\u00c9 and became its first \u00adfemale anchor of Sunday Sport on Radio 1 in 2009. She quit that show in 2023.<\/p>\n
The Cork woman, who grew up in Australia, began her career with Limerick\u2019s Live 95FM and joined RT\u00c9 Sport in 2006. Since then, she has covered international tournaments including the Olympics, World Cups and the Euros and multiple All-Ireland finals.<\/p>\n
She is now the lead anchor of RT\u00c9\u2019s rugby coverage on TV and presents The Sunday Game.<\/p>\n

A champion of gender equality in sport, she has been part of the 20\u00d720 initiative, which aims to change the perception of women\u2019s sport in Ireland.<\/p>\n
In 2022, she won the Jimmy Magee Sports Journalist of the Year Award for her work in sports broadcasting and for efforts in promoting female athletes.<\/p>\n
She has two children with her \u00adLimerick husband Shane \u2013 Luke (11) and Lily (8) \u2013 and is also an author. She wrote Girls Play Too, which chronicles the inspiring \u00adstories of Ireland\u2019s high-achieving \u00adfemale sports stars.<\/p>\n
On being the first woman to front Sunday Sport, she \u00adrecently said it was \u201creally cool\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s really encouraging, \u00adbecause whether it\u2019s like being the first on the radio, or being the first to do The Sunday Game, it\u2019s actually just knowing that you\u2019re not going to be the last, that there are so many more coming after you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The new sports show is part of a \u00adtotal overhaul of Radio 1\u2019s schedule in the wake of Ray D\u2019Arcy\u2019s departure two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
The new Today with David \u00adMcCullagh starts next month in the earlier slot of 9am to 11am. Callan\u2019s slot has been extended and will run from 11am to 1pm, while \u00adRachael English will continue to present News at One.<\/p>\n
Cuddihy will step in to Joe Duffy\u2019s shoes on Liveline from 1.45pm until 3pm, when Louise Duffy will start her slot. The new partnership of Katie Hannon and Colm \u00d3 Mong\u00e1in will then take over Drivetime at the earlier time of 4pm and broadcast until 6pm.<\/p>\n
