Here&#8217;s what you need to know today.\n<\/p>\n<p>  1. Stock Futures Higher Ahead of Inflation Data  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_4-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Stock futures are higher this morning as earnings reports continue to roll in and investors prepare for the release of a key inflation report. Futures tied to the benchmark S&amp;P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq recently were up 0.3% and 0.5%, respectively, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 0.2%. The major indexes are coming off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/dow-jones-today-10232025-11835434\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a winning session on Thursday<\/a> and are on track to post gains for the second consecutive week. Gold futures were down 1.6% at $4,080 an ounce, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/why-wall-street-analysts-are-still-bullish-on-gold-despite-recent-volatility-11835749\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trading in the precious metal remains volatile<\/a>, while bitcoin was at $111,100, up from an overnight low around $109,400. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note, which affects borrowing costs on all sorts of consumer loans, rose to 4.01% from 3.99% at yesterday&#8217;s close.\n<\/p>\n<p>  2. CPI Report Expected to Show Inflation Rose in September  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Following a delay due to the government shutdown, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/c\/consumerpriceindex.asp\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Consumer Price Index<\/a> inflation report is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/september-cpi-inflation-preview-11835258\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected to show inflation ticked higher<\/a> in September as tariffs pushed up prices. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal estimate that prices rose 3.1% last month from a year ago, which would mark the highest annual inflation rate since May 2024. The CPI numbers, due to be released at 8:30 a.m. ET, will be closely followed by the Federal Reserve, which is expected to cut interest rates when its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/next-fed-meeting-when-it-is-in-october-and-what-to-expect-11834541\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">policy committee meets next week<\/a>. The September inflation report was originally scheduled to be released on Oct. 15 and could be one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/september-cpi-report-will-shine-light-on-economy-during-data-blackout-11828396\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">few official pieces of economic data<\/a> produced by the government&#8217;s statistical agencies during the shutdown.\n<\/p>\n<p>  3. Trump Says Trade Negotiations With Canada Are Terminated  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> President Donald Trump said that all trade negotiations with Canada have been terminated after the Ontario provincial government used audio of former president Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs in television ads aired in the United States. Trump described the ads as \u201cfake\u201d and posted a message from the The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute that said the ad misrepresented a 1987 radio address given by the former president. Trump said the ad was designed to influence the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/court-ruling-against-tariffs-adds-fresh-dose-of-uncertainty-to-economic-outlook-11801916\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> current Supreme Court review of tariffs<\/a>. \u201cTARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A.,\u201d Trump wrote. Trump\u2019s trade threat comes after he had already proposed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/which-sectors-will-be-hit-hardest-by-trump-tariffs-on-mexico-canada-china-11690563\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">series of tariffs<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/trump-threatens-35-percent-tariffs-on-canadian-imports-11770312\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on the country<\/a>. Negotiations over renewal of the U.S. Mexico Canada (USMCA) trade deal had been scheduled to take place <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/upcoming-trade-talks-with-canada-mexico-could-have-big-economic-impact-11819984\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ahead of a July 2026 deadline<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>  4. Intel Shares Jump on Strong Earnings, Optimistic Outlook  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Intel (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=INTC\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">INTC<\/a>) shares surged in premarket trading after the embattled chipmaker said it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/intel-stock-soars-as-chipmaker-swings-to-a-profit-11836108\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">swung to a profit<\/a> in the third quarter and delivered an optimistic outlook for the fourth quarter. After reporting losses in the prior and year-ago quarters, Intel\u2019s profit of 23 cents per share were well above analysts estimates of 2 cents compiled by Visible Alpha. The company also reported a better-than-expected 3% rise in revenue to $13.7 billion. \u201cWe took meaningful steps this quarter to strengthen our balance sheet, including accelerated funding from the U.S. Government and investments by NVIDIA and SoftBank Group that increase our operational flexibility and demonstrate the critical role we play in the ecosystem,\u201d said CFO David Zinsner. Intel said it expects adjusted earnings of 8 cents per share in the current quarter on sales of $12.8 billion to $13.8 billion. Intel shares were up 7% in recent trading. Coming into today&#8217;s session, the stock had gained 90% since the start of the year, boosted by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/why-would-anyone-bet-against-intel-red-hot-stock-right-now-update-11817591\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">flurry of high-profile deals<\/a> in recent months.\n<\/p>\n<p>  5. Ford Stock Rises as Earnings Blow Past Expectations  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block finance-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Shares of Ford (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/markets\/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=F\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">F<\/a>) are rising this morning after the Big Three automaker reported results that handily topped Wall Street expectations on the top and bottom lines. Ford reported a 9% jump in revenue to $50.5 billion, compared wih the $46.3 billion analyst consensus, while its adjusted earnings per share of 60 cents blew by projections of 34 cents. However, citing the costs of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/top-stock-movers-now-ford-applovin-amd-and-more-11825434\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York factory fire<\/a> that could total between $1.5 billion and $2 billion, Ford lowered its 2025 outlook for adjusted earnings before interest and taxes to between $6 billion and $6.5 billion, from $6.5 billion to $7.5 billion previously.
