Andre Onana will become the first Man Utd player this summer to leave the club after the transfer deadline with a loan move to Trabzonspor imminent, but he\u2019s leaving as a pretty confident man. <\/p>\n

Senne Lammens\u2019 signing<\/a> on deadline day took the total number of senior goalkeepers at Man Utd<\/a> to four, a number that was always going to be unsustainable. <\/p>\n

Especially now that there\u2019s no Carabao Cup (partly thanks to Andre Onana<\/a>), and no European football, four goalkeepers was overkill. <\/p>\n

However, it still says a lot about Andre Onana\u2019s<\/a> situation that the costliest goalkeeper in the squad was deemed the most expendable. The Cameroonian is reportedly having none of it, United in Focus can exclusively report.<\/p>\n

For all the mistakes he has made<\/a>, Onana has never been one to lack confidence and talk up his own abilities. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s probably what started turning Man Utd fans<\/a> off on him as well, and his stance on the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford<\/a> has only reinforced that. <\/p>\n

United in Focus spoke to insider Graeme Bailey, who reports that Onana thinks he\u2019s been made a \u2018scapegoat\u2019 for the club\u2019s failures. <\/p>\n

Bailey said: \u201cOnana knew in August he could go, but he was always confident of becoming number one again. But I am told that once Lammens arrived, it was made clear to him that he was very much number three in the pecking order.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt that point, he knew he could not remain at the club, and that is really when his people started working hard on options for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnana firmly believes that he has been used as something of a scapegoat, and he still thinks he is the best goalkeeper United have, but he is heading into a World Cup year and African Cup of Nations in January and wants to be playing, so he has accepted the move.\u201d<\/p>\n

Onana\u2019s confidence needs to translate to performances<\/p>\n

A goalkeeper, especially at Man Utd, needs loads of confidence and stubbornness to succeed, but Onana never inspired confidence among his teammates or the fans.<\/p>\n

It was more about his words than his actions, and that\u2019s what he needs to address during his loan. <\/p>\n

There\u2019s clearly a capable goalkeeper there because he was playing in and proving to be the MVP of a Champions League final only two years ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite his move this summer, the door at Old Trafford isn\u2019t shut permanently, as there\u2019s no buy option\/obligation<\/a>. <\/p>\n

If anything, Altay Bayindir is likely to leave next summer, so Onana can back himself to fight against Lammens if he has a good season this year. <\/p>\n
