Garda\u00ed are investigating an incident where two women were allegedly assaulted by a man during a canvass in north inner city Dublin.<\/p>\n

Video circulating on social media shows a man repeatedly threatening and verbally abusing Sinn F\u00e9in leader Mary Lou McDonald and a group of canvassers for Independent presidential election<\/a> candidate Catherine Connolly.<\/p>\n

In it, the man repeatedly threatens to hit Ms McDonald and several others involved in the canvass.<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed confirmed they responded to a report of assault on two women on the North Strand Road in Dublin 1. They said the incident occurred shortly before 4pm on Friday.<\/p>\n

One young woman was taken to hospital for a medical examination following the incident. It is understood that Ms McDonald is not one of the women who was assaulted during the canvass.<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed have appealed for anyone with information or with camera footage of the incident to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for Sinn F\u00e9in said: \u201cA man assaulted a young woman who was part of a team getting out the vote near the Five Lamps in the north inner city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe garda\u00ed were called and are now investigating the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe woman has been brought to hospital for medical examination.<\/p>\n
