Mariah\u00a0Carey<\/a>\u00a0seemed to be a bit off during an after party at the MTV Video Music Awards<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The party took place at the private members’ club The Twenty Two where several stars sipped cocktails while networking.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old chart-topping singer was holding up a microphone as she crooned the 2002 tune I Know What You Want next to rapper Busta Rhymes.<\/p>\n

The icon seemed a little sleepy as she listened to the rhythm then started to slowly sing the song.<\/p>\n

At one point she closed her eyes so that she could focus on her voice and she seemed proud of what she belted out, but it did not appear as if she was totally together.<\/p>\n

Daily Mail has reached out to Carey’s representative for comment.<\/p>\n

Some fans even thought that she could have been slurring a bit, but one has to take into consideration that she was at an after party where\u00a0alcohol<\/a> was served, after all.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carey may also have been distracted by the fans that had cell phones pointed in her face and the pressure to pull off an impromptu singing session late at night.<\/p>\n

Busta put his arm around the star and could be heard saying, ‘Mariah, sing’ as she tried her best before he jumped into the song.<\/p>\n

He then begged, ‘Come on Mariah, give me a note,’ as she looked ready to sit down.<\/p>\n

She then said, ‘Ok, we gotta promote this album right now’; she was referring to her new record, Here for It All, which is scheduled to be released on September 26.<\/p>\n

Mariah then said, ‘Please can I have one too, thank you, oh my God, you guys are so cute,’ as she slurred her words.<\/p>\n

According to The Sun, she stayed past 2 am.<\/p>\n

‘She was clearly drunk and having a good time,’ a source told the site.<\/p>\n

Mariah slurred, ‘Jermaine calls me a rapper. I don’t know what to say, but like I love you. I’m not a rapper.’<\/p>\n

Addressing the crowd, she then said, ‘These people are so loud. Hello.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘We ain’t tryin’ to hear y’all. We don’t wanna hear y’all.’<\/p>\n

Mariah then mentioned her new album again: ‘The release date is the 26th. Who is touching my arm?<\/p>\n

‘Stop touching my arm, okay. So, whatever. I mean, what can I say, the 26th, fine, whatever, bye.’<\/p>\n

Before the after party, Carey looked fabulous in gold as she took the stage at the annual awards ceremony at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The star also picked up an award and posed with pal Ariana Grande<\/p>\n

Carey the argued: ‘I’m doing the best I can with what I got.’<\/p>\n

Carey wore a black leather dress and jacket with lace-print high-heeled boots adding diamond jewelry. Her blonde hair was worn down and she had on flattering nude toned makeup.<\/p>\n
