Can you shed some light on the problem?<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Answer<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Perennial sweet peas often fail to flower if conditions aren\u2019t quite right.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Too much nitrogen in the soil encourages leafy growth instead of blooms, so avoid rich compost or general-purpose feeds and use a high-potash fertiliser such as tomato feed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They also need full sun, at least six hours a day, as shade from fences or nearby plants can prevent flowering.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4837971_3_articleinline_sweet-pea-.jpeg\" alt=\"The sweet pea plant, Lathyrus odoratus.\u00a0\" title=\"The sweet pea plant, Lathyrus odoratus.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>The sweet pea plant, Lathyrus odoratus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Older clumps may become crowded and lose vigour, so divide them in early spring or autumn and replant the youngest, healthiest sections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If the plant was cut back or moved earlier this year, it may still be settling in and will likely flower next season once its roots are established.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With better light, feeding and division, it should bloom beautifully next summer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3099395_2918_articleinline_Peter_20Dowdall_20for_20cutout.jpeg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"My perennial sweet pea did not flower this summer.
