A man who is critically ill in hospital<\/a> after an early-morning assault was attacked following a petty incident on a bus, it has emerged.<\/p>\n Sources have told The Irish Mirror<\/a> that officers investigating the attack on the man believe it stemmed from an incident earlier when he asked a group of youths on the bus to be quiet.<\/p>\n He was later attacked in the centre of Kildare Town<\/a> in the early hours of Sunday morning \u2013 and sources tell us the victim, who is in his 20s, suffered serious head injuries in the attack.<\/p>\n “He is in a very bad way,” a source said.<\/p>\n The man was found unresponsive on McGee Terrace in the town at around 3.15am on Sunday morning and was rushed to Naas General Hospital<\/a>, where he was in a serious condition on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Sources tell us gardai<\/a> investigating the attack believe they now have a picture of what happened.<\/p>\n It\u2019s understood the victim, who is from Co Laois<\/a>, was on a night bus when he politely asked a group of young people to be quiet.<\/p>\n There was no altercation on the bus and the man later got off at a stop in Kildare Town. The young people he had spoken to got off the bus at another stop.<\/p>\n Sources told us that he then came across the group of youths and he was punched in an unprovoked attack.<\/p>\n It\u2019s believed he was punched as few as two times before suffering serious head injuries.<\/p>\n Gardai have already identified a number of young people they believe were in the area when the attack happened and have spoken to them \u2013 but no arrests have been made yet.<\/p>\n Officers have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.<\/p>\n The force said in a statement: “Garda\u00ed are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault that occurred in Kildare town in the early hours of Sunday, 26th October 2025.<\/p>\n The Irish Mirror’s Crime Writers Michael O’Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland.
