Tottenham were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by the holders Newcastle with a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday night. <\/p>\n

The Lilywhites have made a bright start in the Premier League<\/a>, but they had their hopes of a trip to Wembley halted abruptly by the Magpies, as goals from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade condemned them to defeat.<\/p>\n

The trip to Newcastle was always likely to be tricky for Tottenham<\/a>, and it proved that way, as they ultimately lost their unbeaten away record in the North East.<\/p>\n

Thomas Frank<\/a> was left frustrated by the way that his team were put to the sword away from home, and with that in mind, Tottenham News rates the performances of every single Spurs player.<\/p>\n

Lucas Bergvall has been excellent for Tottenham<\/a> so far this season, and his coming-of-age campaign continued in impressive fashion on Tyneside in midweek.<\/p>\n

The Sweden international turned in a bright display upon his recall to the starting XI, and that was certainly timely given his relative lack of football in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old spent much of the game operating in a narrow left-wing role, and despite the slightly unfamiliar position, he showed some superb touches in the attacking half for his team. <\/p>\n

Bergvall\u2019s<\/a> creative efforts ultimately came to nothing for his team, yet he still looked the most likely of anyone in a Spurs shirt on the night. <\/p>\n

The starlet played three key passes throughout the 90 minutes, which was the joint-highest total of anyone on the pitch.<\/p>\n

The youngster was the shining light on an otherwise woeful evening for the N17 outfit, and as a result, was worthy of an 8\/10 rating. <\/p>\n

Richarlison awful for Spurs yet again<\/p>\n

Richarlison\u2019s bright start to the season at Tottenham<\/a> is rapidly becoming a distant memory, and he was as frustrating as ever in the defeat at Newcastle. <\/p>\n

The Brazilian earned himself a booking for his protests towards referee Chris Kavanagh after the opening goal, and he seemed to have more interest in that than he did in defending the set piece in the first place. <\/p>\n

The 28-year-old was left isolated at the top of the pitch, as he had the second-fewest touches of any Spurs player to start the game, although he failed to hold the ball up well enough for his team when the opportunity arose, winning just 45 per cent of his aerial duels.<\/p>\n
