{"id":113548,"date":"2025-10-31T05:32:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T05:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/113548\/"},"modified":"2025-10-31T05:32:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T05:32:11","slug":"four-rescued-after-boat-sinks-in-west-cork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/113548\/","title":{"rendered":"Four rescued after boat sinks in West Cork\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Four fishermen were rescued in West Cork last night after their boat ran into trouble near Castletownbere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Castletownbere RNLI launched a rescue operation on Wednesday night just after 8:30pm following a Mayday call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The fishing vessel, which had departed from Dinish Wharf and was heading toward Castletownbere Harbour, struck a post inside the harbour and began taking on water rapidly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A spokesperson for the Castletownbere Coast Guard said: \u201cAt 20:47 Castletownbere Coast Guard were tasked to an incident in Castletownbere harbour to reports of a boat in distress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAfter arrival on scene Castletownbere Lifeboat and local vessels had come to the aid of the crew and everyone was reported safe and well.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4840503_4_articleinline_575106805_1234337022052536_1480542679508617742_n.jpg\" alt=\"Fishing boat fully submerged in West Cork harbour. Pic: Castletownbere Coast Guard<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">All four crew members were safely taken aboard the lifeboat before the trawler sank approximately 15 minutes later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cConditions were very good in the harbour at the time but unfortunately the vessel could not be saved,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The fishermen were then brought safely back to Castletownbere Harbour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Four fishermen were rescued in West Cork last night after their boat ran into trouble near Castletownbere.
