Tributes are being paid to the local man in his 20s after news of his death emerged.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed have since launched a murder investigation.<\/p>\n
Friends yesterday gathered at the location of where he was found, leaving flowers and tributes to him.<\/p>\n
Mr Gibbons is understood to have been on a bus in the early hours of Sunday morning when a disagreement with others arose.<\/p>\n
But after he left the bus in Kildare town it is understood a row developed at Magee Terrace and there was an altercation in which Mr Gibbons received a head injury.<\/p>\n
Magee Terrace is close to the garda station in the town.<\/p>\n
Mr Gibbons was then found unresponsive and rushed to Naas General Hospital. His condition worsened and garda\u00ed confirmed that he died on Thursday.<\/p>\n
In a statement, garda\u00ed said a post-mortem examination has been carried out, the results of which will not be released for operational reasons.<\/p>\n
Following the post-mortem examination, An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na has now commenced a murder investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cGarda\u00ed continue to investigate a serious assault that occurred in Kildare town in the early hours of Sunday. The man, aged in his 20s, who was found unresponsive on Magee Terrace at approximately 3:15am, has since passed away in hospital,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
Locals commenting on social media have said Ryan was a “gentle soul” with “big friendly smile”, while others described him as a “true gentleman”.<\/p>\n
Many commented on his smile and laugh, and one said he was: \u201cone of the nicest lads you would ever meet\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Dublin Gaelic Fans Facebook page also paid tribute to him saying: \u201cAll of us in the Dublin GAA community are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of Ryan Gibbons, who passed away yesterday, after a serious assault.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRyan was a proud Dub and passionate GAA fan living in Kildare. His passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n
Local councillor Noel Heavey said the attack on Mr Gibbons had horrified people in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are very upset about it, he was only a young man,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Social Democrats Councillor Pat Balfe said: “Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this awful time. May he rest in peace.”<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are continuing to appeal to anyone with information in relation to the incident. Any road users who were in the area between 2:00am and 4:00am and who may have video footage, including dash-cam, are asked to make this footage available to investigating garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
