Recently, Wexford-born artist Ann Maria Bridges returned to Selskar in the heart of Wexford town, to join Sharon Clancy at a full-house for the opening of her new exhibition \u2018Deconstructed Landscapes\u2019.<\/p>\n
Ann Maria\u2019s artistic passion started when she was young. She found that she was most content while drawing, and that art was a way of communicating as a result of her dyslexia. She has always wanted her work to capture the feeling of something.<\/p>\n
Inspired by the likes of Matisse, Micro, Kandinsky, Rothko and Monet, her \u201ccreative process starts with a sketch, from this I work on a fast painting and within that find a composition to give me a starting point. Then I select a base colour that may or may not be seen in the final painting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe colour palette evolves then, I start with mainly three colours to begin. During painting, the organic idea can change as the canvas and paint take over the direction and the colours evolve.<\/p>\n
\u201cFocusing on capturing the essence of movement and emotion through layers of brushstrokes and careful attention to composition. To find that finished piece that is harmonious and makes sense to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

On display as part of this exhibition are beautiful oil paintings. She said: \u201cEach painting becomes a map of fragments, fluid and alive, allowing the space to become more poetic than measured. The freedom of expression rather than the constraints of thought.\u201d<\/p>\n
In terms of the response that she says the Wexford Festival Opera and its appeal to locals and visitors as well as the backdrop at Trimmers Lane has provided added to its reception.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving done many exhibitions in Selskar over the years I\u2019m delighted to show here again and the space I\u2019m in will be kept as a gallery going forward which is wonderful news.\u201d<\/p>\n
