The\u00a070-year-old man who died after a helicopter crash\u00a0near Doncaster has been named as Peter Smith.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His family described him as a “beloved husband, father and grandfather” who was “one of the smartest men”.<\/p>\n

He suffered serious injuries when the helicopter crashed into a field<\/a> on Thursday and was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of medical staff.<\/p>\n

The pilot, a 41-year-old man, and two other passengers, a 58-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy, received minor injuries.<\/p>\n

The helicopter was a private flight which took off from Gamston Airport near Retford shortly before it crashed.<\/p>\n

In a statement, his family said: “Peter was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and we are all devastated by this sudden loss.<\/p>\n

“Peter was one of the smartest men who liked to spend his time making and fixing things. He had a real passion for aviation, and this was something he shared with his family.”<\/p>\n

They praised his love for spending time with his grandchildren and said he loved to have meals out with his wife and had a particularly sweet tooth.<\/p>\n

“We would like to ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time to allow us to come to terms with what has occurred and grieve for the loss of Peter.”<\/p>\n

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch, including people who were in the area at the time and witnessed what happened.<\/p>\n
