Virgil van Dijk<\/a> has urged Liverpool to \u201cstay calm\u201d if they want to win the Premier League<\/a> as he slammed the \u201cabsolutely ridiculous\u201d criticism faced in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

The Red claimed a first Premier League<\/a> win since September on Saturday night by defeating Aston Villa<\/a> 2-0 after goals from Mohamed Salah<\/a> and Ryan Gravenberch<\/a> either side of half-time.<\/p>\n

The victory over Unai Emery\u2019s side, which came after a run of six defeats from seven in all competitions, moved Liverpool up to third in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Van Dijk has urged his team-mates not to get too carried away with the victory after a testing couple of weeks resulted in a lot of outside \u201cnoise\u201d at Anfield. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I have noticed over the last couple of weeks especially is that there is a lot of noise that you have no control over and that we have to deal with as a team,\u201d the Liverpool captain told TNT Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of those takes are absolutely ridiculous. But you have to deal with that. It\u2019s outside noise that can reach certain players, the group. It\u2019s about sticking together.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not going out there on the pitch to lose games, we\u2019re not going out there to be disappointed after games or leave fans disappointed going home, we want to work our socks off and win games. But there\u2019s no guarantee. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou play in the Premier League<\/a>, the highest level, in the biggest league in the world, and it\u2019s difficult to stay calm but you have to do if you want to get back to where we want to be. That\u2019s up there. But that\u2019s something for later in the season to look at.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it\u2019s time to keep working, never get too high, never get too low.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in a world now, for footballers at least, because that\u2019s the only thing I can speak about, where everyone can have their opinion on so many platforms and everyone knows it better.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt sounded like we were in the relegation battle!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to try to stay away from that and focus on the hard work we\u2019ve been doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast season we didn\u2019t hear much negative stuff. Everything was sunshine and rainbows everywhere. Now it sounded like, by the outside world, we\u2019re going to be in the relegation battle, so that\u2019s how it works in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Premier League<\/a> defeats at the hands of Brentford<\/a>, Man United<\/a>, Chelsea<\/a> and Crystal Palace<\/a> in recent weeks, Saturday night saw Liverpool trim the gap to leaders Arsenal<\/a> down to seven points as they climbed up to third. <\/p>\n

However, the Reds could end the weekend outside the Champions League<\/a> places if Man City<\/a> and Sunderland<\/a> are able to win their respective fixtures against Bournemouth<\/a> and Everton<\/a>.<\/p>\n
