{"id":119124,"date":"2025-11-03T09:33:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T09:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/119124\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T09:33:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T09:33:10","slug":"railway-worker-fights-for-life-as-knife-attack-suspect-remains-in-police-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/119124\/","title":{"rendered":"Railway worker fights for life as knife attack suspect remains in police custody"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A \u201cheroic\u201d railway worker is fighting for his life after trying to stop a knife attacker who targeted passengers on a busy train.<\/p>\n<p>The London North Eastern Railway (LNER) staff member, who has not been named, remains in a life-threatening condition after he was injured while trying to protect passengers during the mass stabbing on Saturday\u2019s 6:25pm service from Doncaster to London King\u2019s Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy, of British Transport Police (BTP), said CCTV from the train showed the man\u2019s actions \u201cwere nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved people\u2019s lives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers have spoken of the horror which unfolded shortly after the train left Peterborough station, with one woman saying she felt \u201cvery lucky\u201d to be unharmed after begging the man to spare her life when he chased after her.<\/p>\n<p>Dayna Arnold, 48, told the Mirror newspaper: \u201cI fell down and I just said, \u2018Please don\u2019t kill me\u2019. Something shifted in his face and he just carried on. It was my colleague who is in hospital who was the brave one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Roebuck, full-time organiser in the north-east of England for the train drivers\u2019 union Aslef and lead officer with LNER, said: \u201cThe driver did everything he was trained to do, at the right time and in the right way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe showed real courage, real dedication, and real determination in the most difficult of circumstances.
