\n\tWith a third Predator<\/a> film under his belt, Dan Trachtenberg<\/a> included a subtle Alien<\/a> crossover<\/a> with his latest entry in the franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt Monday\u2019s premiere of Predator: Badlands<\/a>, the 2x Emmy-nominated writer and director explained how the worlds continue to merge in the movie, which premieres Nov. 7 in theaters, also noting how it differs from previous crossovers Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs Predator \u2013 Requiem (2007).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI would say, Badlands itself is definitely a crossover in that we have the Weyland-Yutani corporation as a huge part of the movie,\u201d he said on the red carpet at TCL Chinese Theatre. \u201cElle Fanning<\/a> plays a Weyland-Yutani synth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrachtenberg continued, \u201cAnd I think, sometimes there\u2019s a tendency for a \u2018versus\u2019 movie to be grabbing all the action figures and smashing them together, and I thought it was really cool to just take an element from one franchise and fuse it with this one. So yeah, they\u2019re a huge part of the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Predator: Badlands, a young Predator from the Yautja clan named Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) is cast out, teaming up with a damaged synth named Thia (Fanning) to prove himself and defeat the ultimate adversary.<\/p>\n

\n\tProducer Ben Rosenblatt<\/a> explained adding an element from the Alien universe was a \u201csuper organic\u201d decision, given the franchises\u2019 \u201cspiritual connection.\u201d They also didn\u2019t want to put a human in the film, since the audience would immediately identify with that character, whereas Dek is supposed to be the protagonist.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo instead, [Trachtenberg] was like, \u2018I would love to have humanoid characters without having humans,\u2019 and he was like, \u2018I think we need robots.\u2019 And then, of course Dan was like, \u2018I know who makes robots: Weyland-Yutani,’\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd then it was a natural collision of the two worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRosenblatt also teased that Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a> has met with Trachtenberg multiple times about potentially reprising his role as Dutch from the original Predator (1987) in an upcoming sequel, after the character made an animated cameo in Predator: Killer of Killers<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cObviously, the holy grail of Predator movies would be getting Arnold back in there,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s always been something in the back of our minds that it would be really great to see him come back to this franchise that he\u2019s made iconic, and that\u2019s made him iconic.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo, he\u2019s been really wonderful. Arnold and Dan have met a couple of times now. He\u2019s been really interested in what we\u2019re doing, he\u2019s a real fan of what we\u2019ve done so far, from what I understand. And we\u2019re really excited. After Predator: Badlands comes out, we\u2019ll see and have more conversations.
