It’s not the first time this landmark to mark the border between England and Scotland has been attempted. <\/p>\n

A competition to design the structure was won in 2011 by artist Cecil Balmond, but building it was put on hold because of funding issues. <\/p>\n

His structure – the Star of Caledonia – represents James Clerk Maxwell, otherwise known as the ‘Einstein of Scotland’. <\/p>\n

Loads of the technology we use today relies on the ideas he came up with.<\/p>\n

Work on the illuminated sculpture will start in March 2026 and is due to be completed by the spring of 2027.<\/p>\n
