{"id":123492,"date":"2025-11-05T17:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T17:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/123492\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T17:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T17:08:07","slug":"cttee-told-ireland-laggard-on-electronic-health-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/123492\/","title":{"rendered":"Cttee told Ireland &#8216;laggard&#8217; on electronic health records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Oireachtas Committee on Health has heard that a business case for Ireland to have full electronic health records for every patient is due to go to Government soon.<\/p>\n<p>But deputies raised concerns about how long it will take for a system to be rolled out.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Service Executive said that one health region should have full electronic records by 2027 or 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Fianna F\u00e1il TD Martin Daly said that Ireland was the home of TikTok, Facebook, international firms with major expertise and yet Ireland was a laggard and off the chart compared to other countries in terms of such records.<\/p>\n<p>HIs party colleague, P\u00e1draig O&#8217;Sullivan, said that a previous meeting of the committee heard that procurement alone will take at least 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>After that, he said, if Ireland was lucky, the system could be rolled out in five to ten years.<\/p>\n<p alt=\"Ireland a 'laggard' on electronic health records, committee told\" class=\"tpe\" data-description=\"\" data-embed=\"rte-player\" data-id=\"22557238\" data-ot-category=\"C0004\" data-title=\"\">We need your consent to load this rte-player contentWe use rte-player to manage extra content that can set cookies on your device and collect data about your activity. Please review their details and accept them to load the content.<a class=\"blocked-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/politics\/2025\/1105\/1542319-electronic-health-records\/javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"OneTrust.ToggleInfoDisplay()\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manage Preferences<\/a><\/p>\n<p>HSE Chief Executive Bernard Gloster said the Minister for Health is finalising a full business case for electronic health records and a hearing from the Government is expected shortly.<\/p>\n<p>Tihs year and next, he said, segments of the service would be brought to the maternity services and the new National Children&#8217;s Hospital in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>Concern over number of CAHHS referral refusals<\/p>\n<p>Deputies also raised concerns about Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).<\/p>\n<p>Fianna F\u00e1il TD Catherine Ardagh said the referral system for patients was not working.<\/p>\n<p>She told the committee that in the Community Health Organisation 7 area &#8211; covering Kildare, West Wicklow, Dublin West, Dublin South City and Dublin South West &#8211; there was a 60% refusal by the system to accept referrals from GPs.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Ardagh said the HSE needed to track the number of CAMHS referral refusals in each area.<\/p>\n<p>She was backed up by party colleague, Deputy Martin Daly, who said there was a similar problem in Roscommon\/East Galway and it seemed to be an institutional problem nationally.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Gloster said that he would get back to Ms Ardagh on her question.<\/p>\n<p>He said there is a single point of access to the CAMHS service and children and families will receive the best service for their situation.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, he said, he was not proud of what had happened in children&#8217;s disability and mental health services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Oireachtas Committee on Health has heard that a business case for Ireland to have full electronic health&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":123493,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[103,397,396,61,60],"class_list":{"0":"post-123492","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-healthcare","8":"tag-health","9":"tag-health-care","10":"tag-healthcare","11":"tag-ie","12":"tag-ireland"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/123492","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=123492"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/123492\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/123493"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=123492"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=123492"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=123492"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
