A Kerry member of the Irish Thalidomide Association says the Taoiseach and T\u00e1naiste have taken political responsibility for the process for survivors.<\/p>\n
Thalidomide was a drug that was given to mothers to treat morning sickness during pregnancy from the late 1950s but was found to cause serious birth defects and still births.<\/p>\n
It was withdrawn in most countries in 1961, but continued to be available in Ireland until 1964.<\/p>\n
John Stack from Tarbert, is Ireland\u2019s youngest Thalidomide survivor, and was at the meeting yesterday with Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin and T\u00e1naiste Simon Harris.<\/p>\n
