The year 2025 has been a mixed year for Indian equity markets. Index investors had little to cheer, with the headline Nifty crawling up just about 4% and both midcap and smallcap indices in the red. Yet, hidden in the noise of tariffs from Trump and volatile foreign flows, a clutch of companies have delivered strong returns. According to data reviewed by ETMarkets, 23 counters turned multibaggers<\/a> this year, some multiplying investor wealth by over 20 times in 8.<\/p>\n

Elitecon International<\/a> was the year\u2019s biggest outlier. The stock skyrocketed 2,667%, taking its share price from barely Rs 10 to Rs 281. Right behind was RRP Semiconductor<\/a>, which delivered a 2,611% gain, supported by investor enthusiasm for India\u2019s semiconductor self-reliance push, one of the government\u2019s stated national priorities.<\/p>\n

Other jaw-dropping performers included Midwest Gold<\/a>, which rallied 1,716%, and GHV Infra Projects<\/a>, up 1,435%, driven by infrastructure order wins and optimism around government-backed capex themes.<\/p>\n

String Metaverse<\/a> rose 742%, reflecting how digital-first plays continue to attract speculative interest despite broader market caution. Similarly, Blue Pearl Agriventures<\/a> delivered a 719% return, fuelled by tailwinds in agri-tech and food security themes.<\/p>\n

Not all winners were tiny microcaps. Kothari Industrial Corporation<\/a> surged 570%, while chemical player Indokem<\/a> returned 358%, underscoring how niche businesses with strong positioning could create wealth even in a weak broader environment.

Smaller counters like Palco Metals and Shree Steel Wire Ropes too found buyers, rounding off a diverse multibagger list that spanned metals, defence, infra, digital, and agri. The auto ancillary sector was another winner this year by producing 6 multibaggers in just 6 months.
In the Defence pack, Apollo Micro Systems<\/a> (AMS) emerged as one of the most closely tracked names. The company saw its stock more than double in 2025, forcing investors to notice India’s defence theme.
The rally for Apollo is powered by strong financials, a rapidly expanding order book, and strategic positioning. Unlike larger defence players delivering steady growth, AMS\u2019s smallcap base and earnings compounding make it particularly attractive.What should investors do now?
The standout stock-specific rallies contrasted sharply with muted index-level performance so far this year. Global trade tensions dominated headlines after US President Donald Trump reintroduced tariffs on key imports, sparking fears of a slowdown.<\/p>\n

Indian exporters, especially in IT and speciality chemicals, felt the heat, while foreign investors turned selective. In August alone, foreign outflows amounted to over Rs 40,000 crore and the year’s figure crossed Rs 1.5 lakh crore.<\/p>\n

Domestically, the policy environment turned favourable. The GST Council announced sweeping rate cuts across insurance, medicines, and essential goods, offering relief to households and industries.<\/p>\n

The measures were aimed at stimulating consumption in agriculture, healthcare, and labour-intensive sectors, which together form the backbone of India\u2019s growth engine.<\/p>\n

Market watchers remain divided on whether there will be rewards for stock pickers or index investors. Saurabh Mukherjea of Marcellus cautioned that while government capex may slow, consumption-focused policies will provide resilience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe downside effect, the detrimental effect of Trump\u2019s tariffs will only show up in the next three-four months,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

Pranab Uniyal, Head of HDFC Tru, expects the Nifty to scale new highs by FY26-end, powered by strong earnings recovery in BFSI, autos, and consumer discretionary. \u201cLargecaps and domestic-facing sectors will be the key drivers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kotak MF\u2019s equity fund manager Mandar Pawar pointed to improving rural demand and festive season tailwinds. \u201cConsumption, autos, and cement will lead the next leg of growth. With stable margins and rising construction activity, earnings momentum should strengthen in H2FY26, despite global trade uncertainties,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n

For retail investors, the lesson from 2025 is simple: index returns may have disappointed, but patient stock pickers had the chance to discover multibaggers. The challenge for the rest of year will be separating sustainable stories from short-rush rallies.<\/p>\n
