Born into a family steeped in music \u2014 the niece of classical legend Pandit Jasraj and sister to composer duo Jatin-Lalit \u2014 Sulakshana\u2019s tryst with the arts began early.Starting as a child playback singer, she went on to carve a successful musical career before stepping into films. Her acting debut came opposite <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/sanjeev-kumar\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sanjeev Kumar<\/a> in Uljhan in 1975, followed by films like Sankoch, Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Khandaan and Waqt Ki Deewar, where she starred along with Jeetendra, <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/shashi-kapoor\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shashi Kapoor<\/a> and Rishi Kapoor.Her sister Vijayta Pandit Shrivastava told us, \u201cSulakshana didi was like my second mother. She was bedridden for 16 years after a hip injury and several surgeries. My family and I took care of her all these years. We have lost not just a family member, but also a talented singer and actress who worked with all the big names of her time.\u201dAmong the most poignant chapters of Sulakshana\u2019s life was her deep affection for Sanjeev Kumar. Vijayta recalled, \u201cIsn\u2019t it ironic that she passed away on Sanjeev Kumar\u2019s death anniversary (November 6, 1985). Everyone knows about their close bond and her love for him. He had great affection for our family, but their relationship never culminated in marriage. Didi stayed single all her life because Sanjeev Kumar could not marry her.
