Photo by Valerie O&#8217;Sullivan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom0 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">There are few that can capture life through a lens than Valerie O\u2019Sullivan and once again the Kerry photographer has managed to capture the beauty of Kerry but also the unique aspects of the history and heritage of the county.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Her latest collection of photos are now available in the stunning and must-have publication \u2018On the Edge of Europe\u2019 which charts through words and images\u202f the richness of \u2018The Kingdom of Kerry\u2019. <\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Described as \u2018a love letter to Kerry\u2019 it captures the not only the magnificence of the county but also its people and its rich heritage. <\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">In his foreword of the book  Director General, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Niall \u00d3 Donnch\u00fa, whose roots are well defined in Gneeveguilla writes:<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cValerie O\u2019Sullivan has long understood that to portray Kerry is not only to frame its grandeur, but to honour the relationship between people and place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u2018On the Edge of Europe\u2019 explores the more quirky nature of Kerry &#8211; from\u202fthe highest farm in Ireland, the highest Grotto in the county, the farthest Island in Europe, to the ancient customs of the \u2018Kilbognet Biddies\u2019 and \u2018 L\u00e1 an Dreoil\u00edn\u2019 &#8211; The Dingle Wren.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The UNESCO biosphere reserve that is Killarney National Park is given centre stage in the book as is the world famous UNESCO island of Skellig Michael with images capturing not only the beauty of the remote island but also the boatmen who bring visitors to see it. <\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Valerie, who is renowned for her wildlife photography, capturing native red deer and white-tailed eagles, also includes some of her best images of the county\u2019s flora and fauna.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The talented Killarney photography has also captured some very quirky aspects of Kerry history including the story of \u2018Cait Na Pluaise\u2019 &#8211; a brave woman who lived in a cave situated between Castlecove and Caherdaniel. Cait of the Cave raised her seven children in a cave, following her eviction after the famine in the 1850\u2019s.\u202f To this day limpet and periwinkle shells still lie on the floor of the cave.
