\n\tMod Sun is looking back on his high-profile engagement to Avril Lavigne \u2014 and how the fallout helped him grow.<\/p>\n

\n\tAppearing on the Nov. 6 episode of Bunnie Xo\u2019s Dumb Blonde<\/a> podcast, the multi-genre artist opened up about the relationship\u2019s end with surprising clarity, saying: \u201cWe\u2019re two different people, but I think I had a great influence on her.\u201d He added that the \u201cSk8er Boi\u201d singer helped him \u201cgrow up,\u201d and that he\u2019s now more secure in his identity than ever before.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former couple met in early 2021 while collaborating on music, and their joint single \u201cFlames\u201d dropped just weeks later. A whirlwind romance followed, with Mod proposing in Paris in April 2022. Less than a year later, the pair called off the engagement in February 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough Lavigne has remained publicly silent on the split, Mod has continued to speak openly. In July 2023, he released the breakup track \u201cStrangers,\u201d with lyrics detailing the rise and fall of their relationship. The Paris-shot music video \u2014 filmed in the same city where he proposed \u2014 added further emotional weight.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the podcast, Mod said that his perspective on the breakup has shifted over time: \u201cWe\u2019re two different people, but I think I had a great influence on her.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cLike now, I\u2019m very secure of who I am, because I\u2019ve been lost in the last three years of wondering, \u2018Where do I fit in?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added later, \u201cIf we had done this talk three months ago, I might\u2019ve been like, \u2018F\u2014 that person,\u2019 but now\u2026 If I run into you? It\u2019s all love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also spoke about developing greater empathy in the aftermath, saying, \u201cWhen someone does you wrong, stop thinking, \u2018You did me dirty, and I\u2019m out for revenge.\u2019 Step in their position.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLavigne was briefly linked to rapper Tyga following the split, but the pair separated in mid-2023.
