ITV has announced that a brand-new drama with a solid British cast is coming to our screens soon. The Party is a five-part series focusing on the relationship between a regular man and his very wealthy friend, and it sounds like it might fill the Saltburn-shaped hole in our lives.<\/p>\n

The show features Luke Evans as Martin Gilmour, a journalist from a working-class background who forms a strong bond with rich politician Ben Fitzmaurice, played by fellow Welsh actor Tom Cullen.<\/p>\n

Thirty years after the two first meet at boarding school, having remained unflinchingly loyal to each other the entire time, Martin turns up at Ben’s latest lavish birthday party.<\/p>\n

The celebrations are interrupted when news breaks that the current Conservative party leader has stepped down, with Ben announcing his intention to run for the job.<\/p>\n

Martin is terrified, afraid that the increased attention will lead to things from their past coming to light. And it looks like he’s right to be worried, as the five episodes will deal with the duos history, the party itself, and the police investigation that follows…<\/p>\n

Alongside our leading duo, we’ve got Joanna Scanlan as Martin’s mum Sylvia, Lindsay Duncan and Douglas Hodge as Ben’s parents Lady Katherine and Lord George Fitzmaurice, and Lydia Leonard as Ben’s wife Serena.<\/p>\n

Bridget Jones’ Sarah Solemani not only plays Martin\u2019s pregnant wife, Lucy, but she also created the show from Elizabeth Day’s novel of the same name, and serves as the writer.<\/p>\n

Other cast members include Amaka Okafor, Bally Gill, Sally Scott, Sam Troughton, Sin\u00e9ad Matthews and Rakie Ayola.<\/p>\n

“Sarah Solemani’s adaptation captures the emotional depth and tension of the story perfectly, and to collaborate once again with World Productions and ITV, alongside such an extraordinary cast, is a real privilege. The Party is a gripping exploration of loyalty, class, and the truths we hide, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”<\/p>\n

Solemani herself added: “Class, sex, shame, power, betrayal, secrets \u2014 stunned ITV are letting me air my dirty laundry for our new show The Party stewarded by the legendary World Productions.”<\/p>\n

Day said she is excited to see this “compelling, new creative iteration” of her work come to life, and has asked “multiple times” if she can be an extra in it.<\/p>\n

The Party started filming last month in Wales, and will come to ITV1 and ITVX in the future.<\/p>\n
