Multidisciplinary artist, actor, and director Maria Wright will open her debut solo exhibition, I Burnt My Kitchen Down, on 13th November at 7:00pm at Sala San Filippo, Salesian Oratory, Senglea. The exhibition will run until 16th November, with free entrance to the public.<\/p>\n
Hailing from Mellie\u0127a, Wright draws inspiration from her 1980s childhood, transforming nostalgia and memory into mixed-media collages, paintings, clay sculptures, and performance pieces. Her work explores emotion through texture and storytelling, blending personal experience with universal themes of loss, resilience, and renewal.<\/p>\n
Despite its striking title, I Burnt My Kitchen Down is not a literal confession but a metaphor for transformation and self-reclamation. Wright conceived the exhibition after experiencing personal loss, viewing destruction as a necessary prelude to rebuilding.<\/p>\n
\u201cI called it I Burnt My Kitchen Down because when that happens, you have no choice but to rebuild,\u201d Wright explains. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what this exhibition is all about, rebuilding yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
A highlight of the show includes a series of clay works created from material Wright has kept for over a decade. \u201cI\u2019ve carried this clay with me through every move for ten years,\u201d she says. \u201cI always knew I\u2019d use it when the time was right, now it feels right.\u201d<\/p>\n
The exhibition also fulfills a personal promise Wright made to herself before turning forty: to share her art publicly for the first time. Encouraged by her community and life\u2019s unpredictability, she steps into this moment with courage, honesty, and vulnerability.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will be open to visitors on Thursday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, on Friday between 6:30pm and 9:00pm, on Saturday from 10:30am to 12:30pm and again from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, and on Sunday from 9:00am to 12:30pm<\/p>\n
