Following our previous visit to\u00a0Buttrick Projects Architecture + Design<\/a>, we are moving our\u00a0Meet Your Next Employer series<\/a>\u00a0to Boston this week to explore the work of\u00a0H\u00f6weler + Yoon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Led by Eric H\u00f6weler and J. Meehan Yoon, the firm has amassed a portfolio driven by a desire to use design as \u201can instrument for imagining and implementing change \u2013 social, cultural, technological, and environmental.\u201d Recently, Eric H\u00f6weler also took part in the Archinect City Guide series<\/a>, offering readers thoughts and tips on Boston.<\/p>\n

For candidates interested in applying for a position or anybody interested in learning more about the firm\u2019s output, we have rounded up four unique projects by H\u00f6weler + Yoon that exemplify the firm\u2019s ethos.<\/p>\n

Designed with Carlo Ratti Associati, AquaPra\u00e7a was unveiled to coincide with the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale. A floating cultural plaza, the scheme is part of Italy\u2019s contribution to COP30, and will travel to Brazil in November as part of the Italian Pavilion at the climate conference. Spanning over 4000 square feet, the\u00a0floating structure\u00a0holds and releases water to constantly calibrate and maintain a minimal freeboard with the surrounding water level. As a result, users experience dynamic fluctuations of sea level rise at eye level, creating new perspectives on natural and urban systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A 20-story residential tower positioned between Boston\u2019s Bay Village neighborhood and the Stuart Street corridor, 212 Stuart Street contains approximately 130 residential units across 19 floors, including a penthouse level with an outdoor amenity deck. The ground floor incorporates retail and a lobby along Stuart Street, with two walk-up townhouses facing Shawmut Street to maintain an active residential edge. The facade features custom fluted precast panels with concave geometry, creating rhythmic variation and dynamic shadow play.<\/p>\n

The Moongate Bridge in Shanghai\u2019s Houtan area forms part of the redevelopment of the former 2010 Expo grounds into a new cultural park. Drawing from traditional Chinese moongate motifs, the bridge features a series of circular openings along its edge that frame views of the waterway below. Designed as both a crossing and a public gathering space, the scheme encourages reflection through its interplay of sightlines and materiality. The bridge\u2019s curving geometry is constructed from layered cobblestones, while patterned pavers distinguish pedestrian and vehicular areas.<\/p>\n

Located within a new park in Shenzhen\u2019s third central business district, Helio House is designed as a community amenity, housing a cafe, bookstore, and event space within a compact glass pavilion. An expansive aluminum trellis covering an area five times larger than the building provides extensive shade while reducing cooling loads. The trellis features concave louvers that reflect diffuse light while minimizing heat transfer, creating a luminous yet cool environment.<\/p>\n
