In many ways, AMD\u2019s CEO essentially changed the pace of the entire AI conversation.<\/p>\n
Her comments basically turned what may have been another major product roadmap update into a moment where analysts clutched their calculators.<\/p>\n
Suddenly, the talk was more about who can actually keep up with an AI market moving at an insane speed, and the implications of the move.<\/p>\n
Su\u2019s message during AMD\u2019s Analyst Day event came off as confident and measured, but urgent.<\/p>\n
\u201cHigh-performance computing is the foundation of everything that\u2019s important,\u201d she told the fans, before layering in that AI \u201cis moving faster than anything we\u2019ve seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, it\u2019s racing to define the next big phase of intelligence.<\/p>\n The company\u2019s playbook effectively reads like a convergence story, where hardware, software, and systems are all moving in sync to capture the AI moment.<\/p>\n AI accelerators \u2014 the muscle of the operation: AMD\u2019s robust new Instinct chips (MI350 now, MI450 next) have become the go-to engines in powering AI training at hyperscale. These are essentially the muscle behind every chatbot, model, and simulation, designed to run hotter, quicker, and a lot cheaper than before.<\/p>\n CPUs \u2014 the heart and balance: The next-generation EPYC \u201cVenice\u201d chips are looking to do a lot more with a lot less energy, aiding AI data centers to manage power efficiency and compute.<\/p>\n Networking \u2014 the nervous system: New smart cards and interconnects (codenamed Pollara and Vulcano) will look to supercharge how fast machines look to communicate with each other.<\/p>\n Software \u2014 the brain\u2019s connective tissue: ROCm, AMD\u2019s open AI platform, has grown 10\u00d7 in terms of downloads, becoming the layer that makes all that silicon usable.<\/p>\n AI PCs and embedded systems \u2014 the reach: AMD is integrating AI into everyday devices, from laptops to factory-related equipment.<\/p>\n CFO Jean Hu followed<\/a> things up with numbers that effectively matched the ambition, including north of 35% overall growth, 60%+ in data centers, and 80%+ in AI-linked sales.<\/p>\n In the AI chip world, it\u2019s all about the company that\u2019s redefining the race.<\/p>\n Nvidia still occupies the pole position with its rack-scale \u201cAI factory\u201d systems, including the GB200 and GB300, along with an upcoming Rubin lineup that already has investors excited for what\u2019s to come.<\/p>\n More Nvidia:<\/p>\n Nvidia\u2019s secret edge isn\u2019t in its speed, but in how seamlessly it\u2019s able to sell entire systems, from silicon to software to cooling.<\/p>\n AMD\u2019s counterpunch, which it showed off through its\u00a0Helios\u00a0rack supercharged by its potent MI450, points to what seems like a full-court press to close the distance.<\/p>\n Instead of shipping parts, Su and company talk in systems, layering CPUs, networking, and open software into an organized and coherent AI platform.
