\n\tMicky Dolenz<\/a> will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Monkees<\/a> next year with a new tour that celebrates the band\u2019s history. According to a press release, it will \u201ctake audiences on a joyful, musical journey through the Monkees\u2019 history\u2014performing the hits in chronological order, from the chart-topping classics to the fan favorites\u2014all told with his signature warmth, wit, and stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe tour kicks off February 12 at Belly Up in Solana Beach, California, and wraps up November 6 at Northfield Park in Northfield, Ohio. On September 12 \u2014 the exact 60th anniversary of the premiere of the Monkees television show \u2014 Dolenz will play a special concert in Los Angeles at a venue they aren\u2019t quite ready to announce.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve spent nearly my entire life either in front of or behind the cameras or microphones,\u201d Dolenz says in a statement. \u201cMuch of what I\u2019ve been able to share with the world has come from this thing called \u2018The Monkees\u2019 \u2013 this wacky musical-comedy TV show about a band struggling for success. Interestingly, on the show, the Monkees never actually made it. Off-screen, however, we sold out concerts all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMike [Nesmith] <\/a>put it perfectly when he said, \u2018when we first played, all by ourselves, it was like Pinocchio becoming a real little boy,’\u201d he continues. \u201cI remain proud of what I\u2019ve achieved in my time, particularly with my late great and still-beloved Monkee brothers Davy [Jones],<\/a> Peter [Tork],<\/a> and Michael. What I want to do, as the 60th anniversary of that wonderful moment is upon me, is to look back and share with the fans the sheer joy of what we accomplished\u2014and what it all still means to so many.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDolenz is the voice of the vast majority of the Monkees\u2019 biggest hits, including \u201cI\u2019m a Believer,\u201d \u201c(I\u2019m Not Your) Steppin\u2019 Stone,\u201d \u201cPleasant Valley Sunday,\u201d and \u201cLast Train to Clarksville.\u201d He\u2019s the only member of the band to take part in every single project over the past six decades, and he became the last living Monkee after Nesmith died in 2021, just weeks after the final show of the group\u2019s farewell tour.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2023, Dolenz did a special solo tour where he performed the 1967 Monkees LP Headquarters in its entirety. Since that time, he\u2019s played sporadic shows where he plays mixes in Monkees hits with covers of Chuck Berry\u2019s \u201cJohnny B. Goode,\u201d Buffalo Springfield\u2019s \u201cFor What It\u2019s Worth,\u201d and Elton John\u2019s \u201cYour Song.\u201d On the upcoming tour, the setlist will be limited entirely to Monkees tunes.<\/p>\n
