Cork City\u2019s first padel venue is to open this December following a \u20ac4 million investment from local company The Hive.<\/p>\n
Located at Monahan Road, the project will transform a 19,000 sq ft industrial space near the Marina into a five-court indoor facility designed to bring together the city\u2019s growing padel community in a modern, purpose-built facility.<\/p>\n
Padel is a mix between tennis and squash, usually played in doubles on an enclosed court one third of the size of a tennis court, surrounded by glass walls \u2014 it is also easier than tennis, making it relatively accessible for new players.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Hive represents more than a club. It\u2019s the beginning of Cork\u2019s next community movement,\u201d said David Farrell, General Manager of The Hive.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted to bring something unique to Cork and hence the investment, our goal is to create a place where people can move, connect and belong. We spent two years trying to find the right site and we couldn\u2019t be happier with the outcome; we\u2019re beyond excited to show it off.”<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea for The Hive emerged from the limited opportunities to play padel within Cork City despite the boom in popularity across Europe,\u201d he said,<\/p>\n
Padel tennis has become one of Cork\u2019s fastest-growing sports with Ireland’s largest Padel Tennis facility having opened in Carrigtwohill in November of 2023 which saw 200 players attend in the first two days.<\/p>\n
The Hive Padel Club is expected to open to the public in early December.<\/p>\n
