There is huge disappointment that the long-awaited works to Buncrana Community Hospital will not commence until early 2026.<\/p>\n
The delay, according to Councillor Jack Murray is \u201cregrettable but ultimately out of our hands.\u201d<\/p>\n
The confirmation came in correspondence to Deputy P\u00e1draig Mac Lochlainn from the HSE, which outlined that the hospital redevelopment is included in the HSE Capital Plan, with works expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026 and an anticipated construction period of around 18 months.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, respite services previously provided in Buncrana are now being delivered at Carndonagh Community Hospital and Nazareth House in Fahan.<\/p>\n
Cllr Murray said: \u201cIt\u2019s disappointing to see the timeline slip once again, especially given how important these works are for our community.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, this delay is out of our hands \u2014 but it\u2019s important to recognise that when completed, this project will be a hugely positive story for the people of Buncrana and the wider Inishowen area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat said, this delay also represents a missed opportunity to address the shortage of beds and capacity in the local healthcare system.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a growing and ageing population that deserves access to the best possible care, close to home. Every year of delay adds unnecessary strain on families and services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cllr Murray said he will continue to engage with the HSE and government representatives to ensure that these works proceed as soon as possible \u201cand that Buncrana Community Hospital gets the investment it has long been promised\u201d.<\/p>\n
