The emotional track closes out the Scottish singer-songwriter\u2019s new EP, Survive<\/p>\n
\n\tLewis Capaldi<\/a>\u2019s new four-song EP<\/a> is out today, and with it the arrival of a new single, \u201cThe Day That I Die.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThe track is vintage Capaldi, a deeply affecting, piano-led ballad that finds the Scottish singer-songwriter ruminating on mortality in stark, but evocative terms. On the track\u2019s characteristically booming bridge, Capaldi belts, \u201cJust as the sun will rise\/And the sun will set\/I will love you just the same from somewhere different\/Until you close your eyes\/And we meet again\/Don\u2019t you, don\u2019t cry.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tOn Instagram<\/a>, Capaldi said the \u201cThe Day That I Die\u201d was about \u201cthe lowest I\u2019ve felt in my life,\u201d and admitted it felt \u201ca bit weird putting it out there for people to hear.\u201d Still, he continued, \u201cI\u2019m honestly the proudest I\u2019ve ever been about a song with this one. It\u2019s been an absolute pleasure being back and releasing music and playing shows the last six months and I\u2019m honestly so pleased to say I feel so far removed from the place I was when. Wrote this song. Looking forward to much more next year.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThe Day That I Die\u201d closes out Capaldi\u2019s new Survive EP, which also includes previously-released tracks, \u201cAlmost,\u201d \u201cSurvive,\u201d<\/a> and \u201cSomething in the Heavens.\u201d Survive marks Capaldi\u2019s first release of all new material in two years, following his 2023 sophomore album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent<\/a>. Earlier this year, he did release another EP, All the Rest, which contained two covers \u2014 Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s \u201cDriver\u2019s License\u201d and Billie Eilish\u2019s \u201cWhen the Party\u2019s Over\u201d \u2014 as well as new orchestral versions of two of Capaldi\u2019s own songs.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\tCapaldi\u2019s return comes after a challenging couple of years, during which he stepped back<\/a> from touring to address physical and mental health concerns<\/a>. He returned to the stage over the summer at Glastonbury<\/a>, where he last performed in 2023 and was seen battling Tourette\u2019s syndrome throughout his set.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tCapaldi has played a few more gigs since then, and he\u2019ll kick off a proper world tour early next year. A North American run is set to begin April 15 in Philadelphia and wrap May 6 in Vancouver.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t
