I always talk about how it’s “Lazy Sunday” but then refuse to put my money where my mouth is and just crack away at a million things. I doubt today will be any different. Sunday is also Game Night for my group of nerd friends. I’ve been the DM of a months-long D&D campaign with a party of six, so it’s quite the trick getting everyone together. I’ve also started running a Wednesday-night Dragonbane campaign, because no matter how much I complain about being busy, you can always find more time for games. Speaking of which, let’s take a crack at this game and solve today’s Wordle!

Looking for Saturday’s Wordle? Check out our guide right here.

Today’s Bonus Wordle

Here is today’s bonus custom Wordle.

This custom Wordle is 6 letters long. The clue: Riddle me this. How To Solve Today’s WordleHow To Play Wordle

Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes

Wordle game website displayed on a phone screen is seen in this illustration photo taken in Poland on August 6, 2024. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Today’s Wordle Hints And AnswerWordle Bot’s Starting Word: SLATEMy Starting Word Today: STARE (249 words remaining)The Hint: Hold onto and use, as in a sword or authority. The Clue: This Wordle has two vowels in a row.

Okay, spoilers below! You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

STARE was unlucky today, leaving me with 249 words remaining and one yellow “E.” I tried to make lemonade with LEMON but it only cut that down to 27, though I got a yellow “L” in the bargain. YIELD yielded results, at least, lining up four green boxes and giving me just two words to choose from: FIELD and WIELD. Alas, I chose poorly and got this in 5.

Competitive Wordle Score

Today’s Wordle Bot

Screenshot: Erik Kain

I get -1 for losing to the Bot and -1 for guessing in five. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and 1 for beating me. Our November totals inch closer:

Erik: 10 points

Wordle Bot: 4 points

How To Play Competitive WordleGuessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points. If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. Enjoy!Today’s Wordle Definition & Etymology

Wield comes from Old English wealdan, meaning “to govern, control, or rule.” This in turn comes from Proto-Germanic *waldaną, “to command or have power over,” which is also related to words like waltzen (German, “to roll/turn”) and wield’s semantic cousin rule through the general idea of exerting control.

So the core sense has always been about holding power or control, whether over a weapon, tool, or authority.

Be sure to follow me for all your daily puzzle-solving guides, TV show and movie reviews and more here on this blog!

How to solve today’s Wordle.
