It all starts here with a maiden hurdle over an extended 2m. Ambiente Friendly would win this easily on the form of his second to City of Troy in the Derby. But he\u2019s not one to trust, has had a wind operation and might not enjoy the ground. I\u2019m happy to have an each-way bet against him, and will go with GAELIC PRIDE for Warren Greatrex and James Bowen. The selection went in very testing ground in his point-to-points and won a bumper on soft at Fontwell. He was beaten by a decent horse on hurdling debut at Fontwell and he should improve for that.<\/p>\n 13:45 Cheltenham \u2013 <\/a>Kim Roque<\/a><\/p>\n Here\u2019s a limited handicap chase over 2m4f. It\u2019s impossible to know whether KIM ROQUE is on a decent mark or not off 123 but on all of his French form he stays well and he should act in deep ground. He had a decent win at Auteuil in a big field over hurdles and Joseph O\u2019Brien doesn\u2019t mess about sending horses over for nothing. Richie Deegan gets the big chance in the saddle.<\/p>\n Just the one on ITV from Fontwell in the Southern National Handicap Chase over 2m. The defending champion is UNANSWERED PRAYERS for Chris Gordon and his son Freddie who takes off 3lb. It won\u2019t be easy under 12st 2lb, but he goes well in this class and ran a respectable comeback at Cheltenham when fifth behind Smugglers Haven. That should have put him spot on for this and he goes with cut in the ground so rain is not an issue. Most importantly he stays longer than his trainer on a night out.<\/p>\n A handicap chase over 2m. The same situation here for Joseph O\u2019Brien with KLASS LANGY. A mark of 122 is hard to judge, but the selection goes in mud and stays well. He was in a voided chase last time, but prior to that had scored well at Compiegne. The more rain the better for him on his French form. Again Richie Deegan gets the chance.<\/p>\n 14:55 Cheltenham \u2013 <\/a>Transmission<\/a> (each-way)<\/p>\n A handicap chase over an extended 3m3f. On paper Protektorat might just outclass this lot, for all the trip is a step into the unknown. But I\u2019ll have a few quid each-way on TRANSMISSION for Neil Mullholland and Harriet Tucker. She takes off 7lb, bringing the selection\u2019s weight down into the 9st mark and he\u2019s a horse that stays very well and goes in mud. He ran better than the finishing position well down the field on his comeback at this track. I expect him to be out the back and hopefully come through last and fast.<\/p>\n 15:30 Cheltenham \u2013 <\/a>Alexei<\/a><\/p>\n The big betting race of the day in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle over an extended 2m. I\u2019m not sure there are the usual improvers lurking in here, and as a result I\u2019ll side with a horse who did this column a good turn at Ascot last time in ALEXEI. The Joe Tizzard runner chased home the re-opposing Celtic Dino at Chepstow first time but can now meet that rival on 3lb better terms. Alexei travelled strongly when scoring at Ascot and he\u2019s improving all the time. Added to which he\u2019s a German bred, and might love some cut in the ground for all that he didn\u2019t experience it much in Germany. He did finish third at Dusseldorf on soft. A nice racing weight of 11st 4lb with Brendan Powell taking the mount.<\/p>\n So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas.
